Ground broken at new residential aged care home in Bentleigh

Estia Health marked a significant milestone with a ceremonial sod turn to commence construction of its new residential aged care home in Bentleigh, Victoria.

Located on the site of the former Estia Health Bentleigh home, the development will deliver a brand-new, state-of-the-art 108-place residence, designed to support resident wellbeing, independence and dignity.

The event brought together representatives from Estia Health, project partners including APM Group, and members of the local community. Proceedings began with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony conducted by Uncle Shane and James Brown of the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation.

Speaking at the event, Estia Health Chief Executive Officer Sean Bilton acknowledged the significance of the moment.

“Today marks not only the beginning of construction, but a new chapter for aged care in Bentleigh. While we look forward to what will rise from this site, we also take time to honour the legacy of the original home and the residents, families and team members,” said Bilton.

“The former home’s closure was a difficult but necessary step to ensure the delivery of modern, high-quality aged care that meets evolving standards and community expectations,” Mr Bilton added.

Once complete, the new Bentleigh home will feature contemporary, dementia enabling and independence focused design, along with a range of amenities to support residents’ daily lives. These will include a dedicated allied health space, on-site café and salon, and modern shared community areas.

The development will also include landscaped courtyards, premium ensuite suites and rooms, and basement parking, reflecting Estia Health’s commitment to creating welcoming and functional environments for residents, families and employees.

“This significant investment in the future of aged care in Victoria will serve as a flagship development for Estia Health,” Bilton added.

APM Group, the project’s construction partner, also acknowledged the importance of the development.

“We’re excited to deliver our first project with Estia Health, creating a contemporary home that supports their continued delivery of quality aged care to the Bentleigh community,” APM Group Managing Director, Matthew Dole said.

Construction is expected to be completed in early 2028.
